Day One in Boulder Complete for the Beavers

May 10, 2024

BOULDER, Colo.– Maryann Ackerman and Molly Latincsics highlighted day one at the Pac-12 Championships, both earning points for Oregon State.

OSU scored in the javelin and 10,000 meter finals, earning four points towards the team's overall score, with a chance to earn more points in Sunday's 400 hurdles finals. The Beavs have three scoring opportunities tomorrow with the conclusion of the heptathlon, high jump and steeplechase.

"It's a championship meet and there's going to be a lot of ebb and flow. There's a ton of emotion that goes into a big conference meet. It's what makes it fun and also heartbreaking. We saw a gamut of emotion today and really rode that roller coaster," head coach Louie Quintana said. "First, our scorers had brilliant days. Maryann came up clutch on her last throw of the first round to get to finals and then having a near PB on her last throw of the final to put her in a great scoring position was awesome. Then, the we capped the day off with Molly running an absolute face-melter of a 10k at 5200 ft of elevation to snag a point for the Beavs. It was truly impressive. Anneke also had a great day one of the heptathlon and Kate did her thing to get through to the final. In a meet of this caliber, you can always pick it apart and say we could have scored here or there. At the end of the day, we held serve and sometimes that's a small win. On to day two."

TODAY'S FINALS
Maryann Ackerman placed sixth in the javelin, cinching three points for OSU with a throw of 50.04m/164-2. Sara Sanders finished 11th with a throw of 46.12m/151.3 and Jazlyn Romero finished 17th with a distance of 40.66m/133.4
