Sharts Selected CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America

AUSTIN, Texas - Colorado defender Hannah Sharts garnered one last accolade to close out her junior season. The rising senior was First Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Monday. 

The selection marks the first time a CU soccer player has been bestowed Academic All-American honors. 

Sharts previously added to her postseason awards, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District, United Soccer Coaches Second Team Scholar All-America and First Team All-West Region. The Newbury Park, Calif., native, completed her undergrad this past spring in communications and is pursuing a Master's in organizational leadership with a 4.0 GPA.

She enjoyed her best season on the field in the spring, totaling four goals early on in the season. She recorded back-to-back game-winners against Northern Colorado and Weber State and added goals in CU's win at No. 10 California and Stanford. She finished second on the team with nine points, assisting on the game-winning goal at Utah.

The 5-11 defender led CU in minutes (1,574) this season and started every match. Sharts, a team captain this season, was a large presence on CU's youthful backline. She helped the Buffs record eight total shutouts on the way to Colorado's 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.

She was earlier selected First Team All-Conference and All-Pacific Region. Sharts was also the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week (Feb. 15) and was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week for April 13.

The Buffaloes will turn their attention to the 2021 season in a matter of weeks. CU will head to Air Force for an exhibition match to open the Colorado Cup on Aug. 14. The team's first regular-season match is set for Aug. 19 against Colorado State at Prentup Field.
