Pac-12 Networks’ Nick Koop takes a closer look at UCLA women’s soccer’s 3-1 season-opening win over UC Irvine on Thursday, August 19th in Westwood. The Bruins scored early and often on goals from Maricarmen Reyes (3'), Reilyn Turner (15'), and Mia Fishel (19'), to put the match out of reach before the half. With the victory firmly in hand, head coach Amanda Cromwell turned to redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Mitchell in the second half, who recorded her first collegiate save on an acrobatic maneuver. The Bruins very nearly earned the shutout but lost the clean sheet in the 89th minute on a goal from UC Irvine’s Sophie Gillies.
