Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships preview

Junior Nicola Rossler looks to guide California to back-to-back Pac-12 titles. Rossler closed out last year’s Pac-12 Championship, shooting a one-under 71, helping the Golden Bears earn the conference title. Freshman Hannah Suh has been solid this year. Suh won the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship in Tempe, Ariz. and leads the Golden Bears with an average score of 74.76 and 2.96 versus par. Carly Childs is another outstanding freshman, posting a top 20 finish to pace Cal with a third overall finish in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite. Ranked No. 1 by Golf World, USC has notched a total of four wins this season after a win at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans. The last time the Trojans won four times in a season was 2011. Four Trojans are among the top 25 in the GolfWeek individual rankings, including freshman Annie Park, who is in first place. Park won her first career collegiate title at the Bruin Wave Invitational. Fellow freshman Kyung Kim notched her third top-10 finish, tying for seventh at the Bruin Wave Invitational. Junior Sophia Popov is ranked seventh. Popov has had two top-10 finishes in a row, three overall and four in the top 12.

Arizona sophomore Manon Gidali captured her third career win and first victory of the season at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. Gidali’s efforts helped the No. 8 Wildcats win their third tournament this season, their first win of the spring. Sophomore Kendall Prince is ranked No. 48 in GolfWeek ratings, with a team second scoring average of 74.20 and 2.50 versus par. Host No. 7 UCLA looks to improve from last year’s fourth place finish in the Pac-12 Championship. Senior Tiffany Lua tied for second in the overall standings, shooting 77, 71 and 70 at the 2012 Pac-12 Championship. Freshman Erynne Lee helped the Bruins secure their second win of the season. Lee’s 7-under 65 in the final round propelled UCLA to take the lead and went on to win the Anenue Spring Break Classic in Hawai’i by four shots. The Bruins average a score of 293.69 on the season. Arizona State moves up one spot to place No. 13 in the Golf World rankings after a third place finish in the Anuenue Spring Break Classic. The Sun Devils shot a three-round total of 2-under 862, the lowest total of the season. Sophomore Noemi Jimenez has been one of the most consistent golfers in the nation and enters the Pac-12 Championship ranked No. 9. Junior Daniela Ordonez has recorded two top-five finishes this season. Ordonez placed fourth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and second at the Dale McNamara Invitational. Junior Jenny Coleman has paced Colorado in four of its nine tournaments this season. Coleman has gathered one top-five finish, one top-10 finish and two top-20 finishes. Freshman Alexis Keating has been solid for the Buffs’ lineup this season. Keating is second on the team in rounds in the 70s, with 10. The Buffs enter the Pac-12 Championship with a 305.79 average score on the season. Stanford is led by freshman Mariah Stackhouse, who has posted four top-10 finishes and two top-five finishes. Stackhouse earned two wins on the season and has an average score of 71.82. Freshman Lauren Kim has been firm for the Cardinal this season. Kim is third on the team in scoring average at 74.09. The No. 9 ranked Cardinal has won three consecutive tournaments this spring, posting scores of 569 (Peg Barnard), 586 (Cal Classic) and 878 (Juli Inkster Spartan). Oregon sophomore Cassy Isagawa has been consistent all season. Isagawa has notched four top-five finishes, including a first-place finish in the Topy Cup, hosted by Tanagura Country Club, that helped the Ducks earn their lone win of the season on September 13. The Ducks will compete in the Ping/ASU Invitational April 12-14 before heading to the Pac-12 Championship in Valencia, Calif. Washington looks to improve from last year’s eighth-place finish. Freshman SooBin Kim has led the Huskies throughout the season. Kim notched her fifth finish of third or better in nine tournaments this season after the Anuenue Spring Break Classic on March 27. Fellow freshman Charlotte Thomas has seven top-10 finishes and an average score of 72.59 this season. The No. 12 ranked Huskies posted two wins on the season, both of which were during the fall. Washington State enters the Pac-12 Championship after a fifth-place finish at the Challenge at Onion Creek on April 2. The Cougars finished shooting five-over in the final round and finished 34-over for the tournament. Junior Mallory Kent has posted three top-five and top-10 finishes out of 10 this season. Mallory posts an average core of 74.97, the highest for the Cougars. Leading the way for Oregon State is junior Seshia Telles. She started the season off with a top-five finish at the 2012 Oregon State Invitational, placing third with scores of 72, 72 and 70. Telles brings with her a 75.19 average score and three top-15 finishes. The Beavers will travel to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Fresno State Lexus Classic before arriving at the Pac-12 Championships.
