Four Buffs Head To NCAA Indoor Track Championships

Mar 13, 2014

NCAA Indoor Notes

BOULDER - The University of Colorado is sending four athletes to compete at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 14 and 15, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Shalaya Kipp is the only female who qualified for nationals and will join a trio of men, Jake Hurysz, Morgan Pearson and Ben Saarel. All four are making their first appearances at indoor nationals.

Pearson will kick off the events for CU in the men's 5,000-meter run on Friday at 8:25 p.m. His time of 13:49.30, which he recorded at the MPSF Championships, was the last time to qualify for nationals and ranks eighth in school history. Kipp will compete in women's 5k immediately following the men's race at 8:45 p.m. She enters the meet ranking 14th out of the 16 racers in the field. Her time of 16:00.15 from the Husky Classic ranks fifth on CU's all-time performers list.

Hurysz and Saarel will race the 3k on Saturday at 7:40 p.m. Hurysz recorded the third fastest time in the NCAA this season at the MSPF Championships, clocking in at 7:50.50; while Saarel's time is 12th (7:52.61). Both times are also quite high on CU's all-time list with Hurysz at second and Saarel ranked fourth.

Joe Bosshard had qualified for the championship in both the 3k and 5k, but had to withdraw earlier this week for medical reasons.

ESPN3 will provide live coverage of the championships with Dwight Stones, Larry Rawson and Jill Montgomery providing the commentary, and live results will be available at NCAA.com. A complete schedule for the Buffs is listed below.
