Full-time running back Shaq Thompson carries Washington past Colorado

Nov 1, 2014

Washington linebacker Shaq Thompson has turned himself into a potential Heisman Trophy candidate as a rare two-way threat. The junior looked award-worthy Saturday, leading Washington to a 38-23 win against Colorado by rushing for 174 yards and a touchdown, as seen on Pac-12 Networks. his 24-yard touchdown burst would give the Huskies their first score of the game.

So far this year, Thompson has been more of a threat on defense, scoring four touchdowns on fumble recoveries. The linebacker saw some carries at running back early in the season but was moved into a full-time running back role for the Huskies last week in a 24-10 loss to Arizona State.

The move has paid major dividends for Washington’s offense. Thompson’s production in the first half kept the Huskies within striking distance of the Buffaloes and opened up their passing game in the second half as UW pulled away.
