Arizona State gobbles up 5 Notre Dame turnovers

Nov 8, 2014

Arizona State's defense played a huge part in the Sun Devils' 55-31 win against Notre Dame on Saturday. ASU forced Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson into five turnovers on the day. Four were interceptions and two of the picks were returned for touchdowns.

ASU defensive back Lloyd Carrington took a 58-yard interception return to the end zone wtih 3:41 left in the game, and though it gave the Sun Devils a 48-31 lead, it was much-needed breathing room after the Irish cut a 31-point ASU lead to three in the second half. The final defensive score wasn't the only one needed.

Cornerback Damarious Randall took a Golson pass to the house on a 59-yard pick-six to start the second quarter as well, and ASU scored the majority of their points off turnovers to jump out to a 34-3 lead in the first half that was a good enough start to help the Sun Devils survive a second-half rally.
