California's Thierjung named men's soccer player of the week

SAN FRANCISCO – CALIFORNIA’S Christian Thierjung was voted Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for competition during the week of Oct. 19-26, the Conference office announced on Tuesday.

Thierjung, a junior forward from Dove Canyon, Calif., posted a hat trick in the 4-3, double-overtime win over San Diego State on Friday. His first goal came 46 seconds into the match, ending California’s 367-minute scoring drought. He additionally scored in the 27th minute, pushing the Cal lead to 3-1. He then claimed the game-winning goal in the 106th minute, sending the Bears to their first Conference win of the season.

Thierjung upped his point total to seven on the weekend as he tallied an assist in the third minute as Cal topped UCLA, 4-3. He is now tied for the team lead in points at 18, with seven goals and four assists.

This is Thierjung’s first weekly honor and the 28th all-time Conference weekly nod for California.

California heads to the Pacific Northwest for a matchup against Washington on Friday at 6 p.m., then travels to Oregon State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
