Bruins Abound as NFL Rosters Set for New Season
Twenty-four UCLA Bruins were named to 53-man rosters by NFL teams heading into Week 1 of the 2020 season.
The list features 10 offensive players, 13 defensive standouts and kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn of the Houston Texans. Green Bay Packers tight end Marcedes Lewis, who will be entering his 15th NFL season after being selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft, is the veteran of the group. New England Patriots wide receiver/special teams standout Matthew Slater, who was a fifth-round choice of the Pats in the 2008 draft, is next in line as he embarks on his 13th pro campaign. Three rookies also earned spots on active rosters — running back Joshua Kelley (Los Angeles Chargers), tight end Devin Asiasi (New England Patriots) and defensive back Darnay Holmes (New York Giants) — and each will look to enjoy his first professional action this weekend.
Last year's honored Bruins included Slater, who was named to the All-Pro first team as a special teamer, Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks, who also garnered first-team All-Pro recognition, and Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark, who was named to the Pro Bowl with Slater.
The season begins Thursday at 5:20 p.m. (PT), when Fairbairn's Texans visit the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. NBC will televise the opener.
