Ending On A High Note

Nov 13, 2021

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Stanford will enter the postseason on a high note after an 18-12 win over No. 8 San Jose State on Saturday.

The fourth-ranked Cardinal will be the No. 4 seed at next week's MPSF Championship, hosted at Avery Aquatic Center. Stanford has won the last three MPSF Championships, a league record.

The two teams from Santa Clara Country traded blows early, and it wasn't until late in the half before Stanford got the separation it needed. After taking a 3-1 lead nearly halfway through the first period, the Spartans evened things up and proceeded to take two different leads, each by one goal.

The Cardinal's crucial run came near the end of the second quarter after the game was tied 6-6. Stanford went on a 5-1 run to distance itself from SJSU, finishing with 11 goals in the opening half.

From there, Stanford continued to hold the Spartans at arm's length, with SJSU never able to get within three in the third and fourth periods. Quinn Woodhead's four goals tie a season-high for the senior, while Larsen Weigle added a hat trick of his own.
