Utes Improve to 7-0 With a Victory over LMU

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's tennis team started off its eight-match homestand Friday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center against the Loyola Marymount Lions. After finishing their road trip with a perfect record, the Utes come home and continue their winning streak as they down LMU once more, 6-1.
 
In doubles, the Utes added the seventh doubles victory of the season. The Utes have won every doubles point since the beginning of the season. On court one, Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman defeated the LMU duo 6-2. Shortly following, Bruno Caula and Francisco Bastias downed LMU's Thien Nguyen and Daniel Moreno 6-4. On court three, Jayson Blando and Mathias Gavelin were tied 5-5 with their opponents, but the match was unfinished.
 
The match moved to singles, where the Utes showed stellar performances. The first singles point came on court three, where Espin Busleiman downed LMU's John Otico 6-1, 6-1. Shortly after, Bastias awarded the Utes with their third point after defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-0. The match point came on court one, as Capalbo took the upper hand against LMU's Manoel de Alencar, 6-1, 6-2.
 
On court four, Caula downed Dane Esses after a tough second set, finishing 6-2, 7-6(4) and awarding the Utes with their fifth match point. Gavelin also defeated his opponent on court five, 7-5, 6-3. On court six, Blando fell to LMU's Daniel Moreno for final score 3-6, 5-7.
