ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Cecily Turner recorded the third hat trick in her past four games and senior Elli Protopapas added three goals of her own to lead the No. 4 Cal women's water polo team to a 13-8 victory over No. 7 Michigan on Friday afternoon at Canham Natatorium.

Each of Turner's three goals were pivotal, and two of them came on buzzer-beaters. After the Wolverines had taken a 3-2 lead, Turner found the back of the cage right before time expired in the first quarter to tie the game. Turner then scored a power play goal on the first possession of the second quarter to give the Bears their first lead of the game, an advantage they wouldn't relinquish.

After Michigan scored back-to-back goals to trim Cal's lead to 6-5, Turner beat the buzzer again before halftime to push the Bears' advantage back to two goals. The Wolverines weren't able to get closer again.

Senior Emma Wright and sophomore Maryn Dempsey added two goals apiece while sophomore Ruby Swadling pitched in with a goal and two assists. Junior goalie Isabel Williams made eight saves.

Wright now has 189 career goals, putting her in a tie for No. 5 all-time at Cal.

After a perfect 3-0 road trip against top-15 teams, the Bears are back in Berkeley for their final home game of the season on April 2 at Spieker Aquatics Complex. Cal will honor its seniors in a special pregame ceremony.
