Beavers head to Hayward Field for Oregon Relays

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women's track team will return to Hayward Field this weekend to compete at the Oregon Relays.

Field events for the Beavers will start at 1 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday. Track events start at 5:15 p.m. Friday and at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday.

Friday's highlight track event will be the 3000-meter steeplechase, set for 8:50 p.m. OSU entrants are Kaylee Mitchell (9:48.30) and Grace Fetherstonhaugh (9:50.40), redshirt juniors who rank 1-2 on OSU's all-time list in that event.
 
Saturday's premier track event is the 800 Invitational at 5:15 p.m. OSU's entrant is senior Mari Friedman, who ranked No. 3 all-time in that event with a PR of 2:07.50 set last Saturday at the Lewis & Clark Invitational.
 
It's the second of four meets for the Beavers at Hayward Field this season. They previously competed at the Hayward Premier on April 1-2; they'll return for the Twilight Meet on May 6-7 and for the Pacific-12 Conference Championships on May 13-15.
 
Last time out
The Beavers posted 10 all-time top-10 marks last week while competing at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on April 16 and at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and Beach Invitational at Long Beach State on April 14-16.

At Lewis & Clark, senior Mari Friedman led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 800 with a 2:07.50 clocking to better her No. 3 all-time mark by nearly one-half second. Redshirt junior Kaylee Mitchell was second in 2:08.20, the No. 4 all-time mark, and redshirt junior Grace Fetherstonhaugh was third at 2:11.17, the No. 9 mark.

On Day 2 of the Beach Invitational, sophomore Adael Scatena posted the No. 7 all-time clocking in the 400 hurdles and placed 14th in 1:02.01. Also, the 1600 relay foursome of Scatena, redshirt sophomore Paige Sefried, freshman Jada Hurley and junior Taylor Weidinger finished ninth in 3:51.01, the No 7 all-time performance.

On Day 1, redshirt freshman Markayla Billings took 15th place in the hammer and assumed the No. 5 spot with a mark of 179-8; she had been No. 6 with a PR of 175-4. Redshirt freshman Jade Whitfield moved from No. 10 to No. 9 by throwing 158-5, bettering her PR by more than four feet. 

Sophomore Ella Knott placed sixth in the javelin and improved her No. 8 all-time mark to 150-6 to better her former PR of 149-1.

At the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, redshirt freshman Jade Whitfield took eighth place and set the No. 2 mark in the discus at 168-5, an improvement of almost five feet from her previous PR. She moved from No. 4 to No. 2 on the all-time list.

Junior Anneke Moersdorf flew 19-3.50 in the long jump and placed fourth, bettering her outdoor PR by more than 14 inches and establishing the No. 9 mark in school history.

Pac-12 Athlete of the Week nominees
Senior Mari Friedman was nominated for Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Week and freshman Markayla Billings was nominated for Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week for April 11-17. Neither was selected.

Running at the Lewis & Clark Invitational, Friedman led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 800 with a 2:07.50 clocking to better her No. 3 all-time mark by nearly one-half second. Her former PR was 2:07.94. Billings took 15th place in the hammer and assumed the No. 5 spot with a mark of 179-8 at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State. She had been No. 6 with a PR of 175-4.
