Ducks Fifth After First Two Rounds at Pac-12 Tourney

Apr 25, 2022

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Yuki Moriyama shot rounds of 68-69 to lead Oregon on the first day of the Pac-12 Championships Monday at Aldarra Golf Club.
Moriyama was tied for third at 5-under 137 while Oregon was fifth at 7-over.
How It Happened: Moriyama, who finished third at the 2021 championships, had an eagle and four birdies in the morning round as part of his 3-under 69. In round two, the sophomore from Kanagawa, Japan, struck for seven birdies, but also had five bogeys for a 2-under 69.
Moriyama was two strokes behind 36-hole leader Barclay Brown of Stanford, who stood at 7-under 135. Washington's Noah Woolsey was second at 6-under 136.
In addition to Moriyama, the Ducks had two other golfers in the top 20. Owen Avrit was tied for 12th at 1-over 143 after rounds of 71-72. Nate Stember fired rounds of 70-74 and was tied for 16th at 2-over 144.
No. 8 Washington led the field at 4-under 706. No. 4 Stanford was next at 710, followed by No. 17 Stanford at 712 and UCLA at 715.
The Ducks turned in a 6-under 349 in round one, but were 13-over in round two to end the day at 7-over 717.
Head coach Casey Martin
"We had a great start today. The course conditions wore us down at the end. The golf course is amazing, but it is very difficult. We need to regroup and make some putts tomorrow."
Notable: Moriyama was one of only four golfers under par in both rounds on Monday … Teams are counting the top five scores among their six golfers for this tournament, as opposed to standard five-count-four the college format
