Teagan Wy Selected To U.S. Under-20 Team

May 12, 2022

CHICAGO – The United States Under-20 National Team called California signee Teagan Wy into National Team camp for a pair of upcoming friendly matches against Costa Rica.

The U.S. will host Costa Rica in two friendly matches at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif on May 15 and 18 as closed-door scrimmages. The U-20 WYNT will gather from May 11-19.

Wy signed with the Bears in November as the standout in the Class of 2022. She will enroll at UC Berkeley this fall and join the Bears for the 2022 season.

"We are really pleased for Teagan," Cal head coach Neil McGuire said. "She is very dedicated to developing her craft as a goalkeeper and she is deserving of this opportunity. This experience will help her greatly as she prepares for her first season in the Pac-12."

Wy has been involved with the US Youth National Teams for the past five years, this will be the 11th time she's been called to a U.S. National Team camp across various age levels. This is the second time she has been called into the U20 camp as she joined the team in October for a training camp in Chula Vista. She was selected as one of the three-best American goalkeepers at the U20 age level. She was also the starting goalkeeper for the United States at the 2018 U18 CONCACAF Championship as she led the USA to a Championship by beating Mexico, El Salvador and Portugal.

According to Top Drawer Soccer, Wy is ranked as the 18th-best prospect in the class of 2022, a four-star prospect and the third-best player in the West Region.

The U.S. called in 23 players for the training camp and matches, 22 of which were not part of the U20 team that won the CONCACAF Championship in March.  U.S. head coach Tracey Kevins called in a different group to expand the player pool ahead of the U-20 Women's World Cup.

Cal rising sophomore Ayo Oke was part of the US team who won the CONCACAF Championship, their seventh consecutive title. Oke played the full 90 minutes in the semifinal match vs. Puerto Rico as the USA won 7-0, in the match that clinched a spot in the U20 World Cup for the USA. She played in six matches in the tournament including three knockout round games, helping the U.S. score 49 goals without conceding. As a defender, Oke helped the Americans keep a clean sheet in all seven matches.

The U.S. is set to kick off the U-20 Women's World Cup on Aug. 11 vs. Ghana. The Final Draw for the tournament was held last week in Costa Rica and the USA was drawn into Group D alongside reigning world champion Japan, Netherlands and Ghana.
