Heartbreaker in Waco

WACO, Texas – A competitive contest between two evenly matched teams, No. 3 Baylor men's tennis came from behind to top Stanford, 4-3, on Friday evening at Hurd Tennis Center. The Cardinal's season ends in the super regional round, with Stanford holding a 19-6 overall record.

The Cardinal picked up the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Max Basing and Timothy Sah smoothly collected a 6-3 win on court three while the duo of Tomas Kopczynski and Axel Geller knocked off the nation's third-ranked tandem on court one, 6-3.

The action was close on every court, but Stanford sent the first blow in singles to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Max Basing dismantled his opponent on court three for a 6-1, 6-1 win, though Baylor responded with a win to pull within one, 2-1.

Geller extended the Cardinal lead to 3-1 with a win on court two, outlasting his ranked opponent on court two in a tiebreak second set, 7-6 (6). The final three courts were highly contested, with two ending in tiebreak fashion and one in a third set, but Baylor scored on each court to claim the match.

The Cardinal will send Arthur Fery to the NCAA singles championship and the pair of Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert to the doubles event in Champaign, Illinois from May 23-28.
