USC's Rai Benjamin Earns 400m Hurdles Silver Medal At World Athletics Championships

Rai Benjamin placed second in the men's 400m hurdles final, Aaron Brown advanced to the men's 200m final and Dalilah Muhammad and Amalie Iuel advanced to the women's 400m hurdles semifinals during the fifth day of the 2022 World Athletics Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. today (July 19). 

  • Benjamin (USC, 2019) took second in the men's 400m hurdles final with a season-best time of 46.89.  Benjamin followed up his Olympic silver medal with a silver medal at the World Championships.
  • Aaron Brown (USC, 2014) had a time of 20.10 to place second in his men's 200m semifinal heat to advance automatically to the final on July 21.  Brown's time was 8th overall among the qualifiers.  Brown is the only male athlete at the World Championships to qualify for both the 100m and 200m final.
  • Tynia Gaither (USC, 2016) ran a PR of 22.41 to place fifth in her women's 200m semifinal heat.  She finished 11th overall.
  • Dalilah Muhammad (USC, 2012) won her women's 400m hurdles heat with a time of 54.45 to automatically advance to the semifinal tomorrow. Amalie Iuel (USC, 2017) took third in her heat with a personal-best of 54.70 to also automatically advance to tomorrow's semifinal.  Muhammad had the third and Iuel the seventh-fastest qualifying times.

Trojans scheduled to be in action tomorrow include: Amalie Iuel (W-400m H semifinals), Dalilah Muhammad (W-400m H semifinals), Michael Norman (M-400m semifinals), Nicole Yeargin (W-400m semifinals).
