Apr 27, 2023

OJAI, Calif. – Arizona’s Jonas Ziverts has been named the 2023 Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced by the conference prior to the Wildcats' opening match at the Pac-12 Championships on Thursday. The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes who have distinguished themselves both academically and in their respective sport disciplines.

A senior in the Eller College of Management, Ziverts is working towards a bachelor’s degree in economics with a cumulative GPA of 3.78. He has thrice been a member of the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll (2020, 2021, 2022), is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete (2021, 2022) and a part of Arizona’s 2022 ITA All-Academic Team.

Playing between courts one and two for the entirety of his career, Ziverts has been a leading force in career as a Wildcat, boasting a 66-46 singles record and a 52-44 doubles record, to put him in the top six in program history for singles and doubles wins. His outstanding 12-7 opening season earned him an ITA Southwest Rookie of the Year honor in 2019 and the program's first NCAA Individual Championship bid since 2015. Ziverts went on to become a leader of the 2021 NCAA Sweet Sixteen team and the 2022 Wildcat team that clinched the program's first Pac-12 regular-season title.

Ziverts has collected All-Pac-12 second team honors on two occasions (2019, 2021) and one first-team nod (2022), while picking up three Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week awards in his career. With a national ITA ranking of as high as No. 19 and twice an NCAA Individual Championship qualifier, Ziverts is Arizona's first Pac-12 Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season.
