Pac-12 Men's Basketball Performance Awards, presented by Nextiva - January 2, 2024
The Pac-12 announced its eighth weekly honors of the 2023-24 men's basketball season as presented by Nextiva and voted on by media who cover the league. See below for this week's recognitions and keep track of the 2023-24 Player of the Year watchlist here:
Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Nextiva (1/2/24)
Branden Carlson, UTAH
Gr., C, South Jordan, Utah
- Averaged 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 blocks to lead Utah to a Pac-12-opening sweep of the Washington schools.
- Shot 53 percent from the field (20-38) and 55 percent behind the arc (6-11) as Utah opened 2-0 in league play for the second consecutive season and fourth time in Pac-12 era (2014-15, 2017-18).
- Opened week with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five blocks in 80-58 rout of Washington State. Only Division I player this season, and only the third major conference player in the past 15 seasons, to reach those totals in a single game.
- Followed with a career-high 34 points (14-23 FG, 3-5 3FG) to go with seven rebounds and seven assists in 95-90 victory over Washington - also the only Division I player to reach those totals this season. Scored 27 of his 34 points in the second half as the Runnin' Utes erased an 11-point halftime deficit.
- Second Player of Week honor of season and third of career (11/20/23, 1/23/23) - second at Utah only to Jakob Poeltl (four).

Pac-12 Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, presented by Nextiva (1/4/24)
Kanaan Carlyle, STANFORD
Fr., G, Atlanta, Ga.
- Matched the Pac-12 freshman season-high with 28 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks in Stanford's 100-82 upset of No. 4 Arizona on Sunday.
- Connected on six 3-pointers (6-8 3FG) and went a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line against the Wildcats.
- For the week, averaged 20.0 points on 60 percent shooting (12-20) including 67 percent behind the arc (8-12) in 23.0 minutes off the bench.
- Also named Associated Press National Player of the Week.
- Stanford's 12th Freshman of the Week since the award's inception in 2019-20, trailing only USC's 13.
