Micah Ashman Named NCBWA Preseason All-American

Feb 6, 2024

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah junior left-handed pitcher Micah Ashman has been named to the NCBWA Preseason All-America Third Team, the association announced on Tuesday.

A native of nearby Sandy, Utah, Ashman made incredible strides as a sophomore in 2023, earning Pac-12 All-Conference honors at season's end. He was also one of seven Pac-12 pitchers named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. Entering the 2024 season, D1Baseball.com lists Ashman as the Pac-12's No. 23 prospect for the MLB Draft.

He made 23 appearances last season—all out of the bullpen—recording nine saves and a 3.63 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched. He had 38 strikeouts and allowed just five walks—amounting to almost seven innings per free pass.

Ashman's nine saves finished the regular season ranked second in the Pac-12 and 24th nationally, while also tying for second-most in recorded program history at Utah. A solid and reliable option late in games, six of his nine saves in 2023 went longer than an inning. Five came during Pac-12 Conference games, the third-most in the league.

The month of April 2023 was a standout one for Ashman, posting a 0.69 ERA in his eight appearances and 13 innings. He had 13 strikeouts against only two walks.

In his two previous seasons as a Ute, Ashman owns a 3.48 ERA and 3-4 record over 48 appearances and 62 innings. He ranks tied for fifth in program history with nine career saves (all in 2023) and needs eight more to tie Tyler Wagner for the program career record (17 from 2010-12).
