Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Yan Vazquez, So., Arizona (Mesa, Ariz.)

  • Made his outdoor debut for Arizona and won the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.09, just 12 one-hundredths of a second away from his lifetime-best time in the event. 
  • Now ranks eighth in school history in the event and fourth in the nation this year. 
  • Also ran a leg on Arizona’s winning 4x400m relay team that clocked a time of 3:11.58.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Maribel Caicedo, Gr., Washington State (Guayadquil, Ecuador)

  • Made her first collegiate appearance in almost a year and picked up the event win in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.09 at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta. 
  • Impressively ran into a strong headwind (-2.3)
  • Ranks third in the event in the nation this year and is one of only three women in the country to duck under 13.10.
  • Also ran the opening leg of the Cougars’ 4x100m relay team that placed fourth with a time of 44.94.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Mason Mangum, R-Jr.., California (Austin, Texas)

  • Appeared in the long jump for the first time this outdoor season, notching a lifetime-best mark of 7.86m (25-09.5) at the Hornet Invite in Sacramento, barely eclipsing the wind-legal standard at +2.1.
  • Performance in the long jump earned him the event victory and the best mark in the nation this year by over three inches.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Amari Turner, 5th, California (Redondo Beach, Calif.)

  • Notched a new outdoor school record with a clearance of 4.32m (14-02.00) in the pole vault at the Hornet Invite. 
  • Won the event title at the meet and posted a lifetime-best mark. 
  • Ranks second in the nation this year in the event and is one of only two women in the country to eclipse 14 feet thus far.
