Formann Named Third Team Academic All-America

Apr 16, 2024

BOULDER — Colorado guard Frida Formann was voted a Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators Tuesday, becoming the first CU women's basketball player to earn the honor since Jackie McFarland's First Team selection in 2008.

This is Formann's first Academic All-America selection. In March, she was one of four Colorado players named CSC All-District.

Formann is a 4.0 student majoring in Environmental Studies. This season, she was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection, led the Pac-12, and ranked 18th in the nation in 3-point field goal % (min. 2 made per game), shooting a career-best 42.1%.

The Bagsværd, Denmark, native matched CU's single-season 3-point record, hitting a career-high 82 triples, and became the school's career record holder for 3-pointers made (men & women), ending the season with 260 career makes. She twice tied the school record with seven 3s in a game this season and twice posted a career-high 27 points. She also ranked second in the Pac-12 in 3-pointers per game (2.41).

The senior sharpshooter is a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection who was lights-out from the free-throw line, hitting 90,1% (64-71) this season.

Formann was one of five of the 16 Academic All-America Division I women's basketball team members to boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school.

Formann joins McFarland and Corky O'Rourke as the only CU women's basketball players to earn Academic All-America. McFarland earned three honors from 2006-08, and O'Rourke was a Third-Team selection in 1981.

In order to be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games. Additionally, each student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Formann announced her intentions to return to the Buffs earlier this month and will play her fifth and final season in 2024-25.
