Sheehan Selected as Semifinalist for MAC Hermann Trophy
UCLA senior midfielder Delanie Sheehan has been named as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches. The award is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
A finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, Sheehan was named the 2020-21 Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year and earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors. Sheehan has started and played in 15 games and ranks second on the team with five assists and tied for fourth with four goals and 13 points. Twice named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, she scored the game-winner in overtime and assisted on the game-tying goal at Stanford and also scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win at Colorado. After playing the last two seasons as a defender, Sheehan moved back to midfield and has thrived as the Bruins' 10, leading the Bruins to the Pac-12 title and to a No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Sheehan has played in 85 career games for UCLA and started 69 while recording 15 goals and 18 assists. She was selected in the third round of the NWSL draft by NJ/NY Gotham FC as the No. 33 overall pick.
Three men and three women finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, May 12. The 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on May 27, 2021 to formally announce this year's winners.
