Scatena Garners Gold in WSU Open 400 Meters as Beavers Close Out Second Day in Spokane

Feb 4, 2022

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Oregon State Track and Field team capped its second day in Spokane, Wash. with a win in the 400 meters as well as seven top-10 finishes in Friday's combined WSU Open and Invitational.

"We carried over the momentum we had yesterday into today," said assistant coach Pete Herber. "We had some nice PR's and an event champion on the track this afternoon. Everyone is competing hard in their races. We had some athletes that are running for the first time on a banked track and I think they handled it well. The field event group is getting more consistent with their execution, which is going to pay off as we head into our final indoor meets."

WSU Open
Sophomore Adael Scatena won the 400 meters with a personal-best of 56.84. Her time puts her at fifth in the Oregon State all-time list in the 400 meters. In the 200 meters, freshman Jada Hurley led the Beavers, stopping the clock at 25.16 for a personal best and fifth-place finish. Hurley's time in the 200 meters places her fourth in the Oregon State all-time list.

In field events, redshirt freshman Jade Whitfield posted a toss of 16.05m (52' 8") in the weight throw to place sixth overall. Redshirt sophomore Savannah Reilly notched a ninth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.63m (5' 4.25") for a personal best.

WSU Invitational
The Beavers wrapped the night with the WSU Invitational's weight throw and high jump. Whitfield led the Beavers in the weight throw, recording a toss of 16.18m (53' 1") to place 11th. Junior Anneke Moersdorf and sophomore Delaney Bahn opened competition for the Beavers in the WSU Invitational on Thursday with their first career pentathlons. Moresdorf finished second with 3840 points and Bahn finished seventh with 3492 points. The pair marked five personal-bests between them and are now in the top-five all-time at Oregon State in the event. Moersdorf's leap in the pentathlon long jump (5.92m (19' 5.25")) also placed her second all-time in the program records in the long jump.
