Trailing 13-6 late in the second quarter, the Husky defense stood strong against a short run from Stanford’s Remound Wright. Just when it looked like Wright was stopped and the play was over, Thompson sprang into action, stripping Wright of the ball, picking up the fumble and taking off for the score. A review from the officiating crew would keep both teams on pins and needles for a few moments, but the play would ultimately stand.

With Washington’s offense gaining only 90 yards in the first half while being dominated in the time of possession game, Thompson’s third defensive touchdown of the season was what the Huskies needed to keep themselves in the game heading into the second half.

Thompson would later force another fumble that was recovered by the Huskies, but Stanford ultimately had enough scrappiness to pull out the 20-13 victory.
