Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Weekly Release - March 11, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO - Pac-12 women's gymnastics schedule hits the final week of regular-season after four teams cliched a share of the regular-season title. 

  • Six Pac-12 squads find their way into the top 25, as No. 4 Utah (197.750) continues to lead the way followed by No. 10 California (197.170), No. 12 Oregon State (196.980), No.15 Arizona State (196.775), No. 17 UCLA (196.680), and No. 23 Stanford (196.415). For the remainder of the season, rankings will be moved to National Qualifying Scores (NQS). 
  • Last week for the first time in conference history, four teams claimed a share of the Pac-12 regular-season title after finishing the conference schedule with a 5-2 record (Arizona State, California, Oregon State and Utah). For the first time in program history, Arizona State, California and Oregon State claimed their first outright or share of the Pac-12 regular-season title. Utah has now won the regular-season outright or at least a share in all three season since the conference began awarding a regular-season champion. 
  • On Thursday, Arizona picked up a victory in their home schedule against Sacramento State (196.375-192.475) as four Wildcats' posted career-high scores.
  • On Friday, No. 10 California will head to Columbus to face off against No. 16 Ohio State and Pittsburgh in a tri-meet at 4 p.m. PT, as No. 4 Utah will head to Baton Rouge to take on No. 7 LSU in a top-10 meet set to air on SEC Network at 5:30 p.m. PT. No. 15 Arizona State will host No. 21 Boise State and No. 1 Oklahoma in a top-25 showcase at 6 p.m. PT, which will be available through livestream outlet. Washington will take on San Jose State in Tempe at 6 p.m. PT, which will also be available through livestream outlet. 
  • The Utes led the all-time series against LSU 34-7 (1-3 in Baton Rouge), with the last meeting was at the 2019 NCAA Regional and the last meeting in Baton Rouge was in 2002. Last week, Utah's Maile O'Keefe and Sage Thompson recorded back-to-back 10's on bars, which was the first consecutive perfect scores on bars in program history. 
  • Arizona State is currently riding a four-meet winning streak, which is the longest winning streak since the start of the 2012 season and have scored a 197 or better as a team in the last three weeks. 
  • On Saturday, Arizona will head to Provo to face off against No. 19 BYU for their final meet of the regular-season at 11 a.m. PT, followed with No. 17 UCLA hosting UC Davis at 2 p.m. PT which will be aired on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angelas. 
  • Utah's Freshman Grace McCallum, who is ranked in the top-20 on all events is eighth in all around (39.495), tied for 10th on floor (9.940), 12th on beam (9.920), 13th on bars and tied for 19th on vault. 
  • Last week, UCLA posted a 198.050 as they defeated then-No. 8 California which was their highest team score since 2019. UCLA looks to improve their NQS before the regular-season concludes. 
  • On Sunday, No. 12 Oregon State will head to Denver for a quad meet between No. 18 Arkansas, No. 14 Denver and Nebraska at 1 p.m. PT. At 2 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Insider, the free, 24/7 streaming channel from Pac-12 Network, while California will host Iowa in a top-20 matchup to finish out the Pac-12 regular-season schedule. 
  • Oregon State's Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey looks to finish out a stellar freshman season as she is currently rank first in all-around (39.770) and on bars (9.955), tied for second on the floor (9.955), fifth on vault (9.935) and 16th on beam (9.910).
  • All eight Pac-12 programs began the season in the 2022 WCGA Preseason Coaches Poll in No. 4 Utah, No. 7 California, No. 8 UCLA, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 17 Oregon State, No. 27 Arizona, No. 33 Stanford and No. 34 Washington. 
  • Utah, UCLA and California went 1-2-3 in the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll, while Arizona State, Oregon State, Arizona, Stanford and Washington rounded out the league poll.

* Ordered by National Qualifying Score (NQS). Qualification for national competition is based on a team's and an all-around competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the national qualifying score (NQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. In former years, this was known as the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), which was changed for the 2019 season to reflect the new post-season format.

Olympians Made Here

  • The 2022 Pac-12 gymnastics season will feature a strong connection to the recently-concluded 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with four Olympic medalists beginning their collegiate careers on Pac-12 campuses this year. Oregon State's Jade Carey (USA) won an individual gold medal in the floor exercise, UCLA's Jordan Chiles and Utah's Grace McCallum were silver medalists in the team competition with the United States, and Utah's Amelie Morgan helped Great Britain to team bronze, its first gymnastics medal since 1928.
  • Rounding out the Pac-12 freshmen with Olympic ties are UCLA's Brooklyn Moors, who competed for Canada in Tokyo, and Utah's Kara Eaker and UCLA's Emma Malabuyo, who were alternates for the United States.
